Artist's Statement

I work abstractly, experimenting with the watercolor medium, intending to transcend the usual landscape form. I allow the accidental qualities that are the nature of the medium to inform the ultimate direction the works take.

My newest series originates from my life-long interest in the cosmos. I recently took a couple of courses; one was on Astrobiology, the quest to find life on other planets, the other was called The Search for the Center of the Universe. These classes introduced me to a new vocabulary of ideas and forms. I am especially interested in the attempts of mankind to find order and meaning in the stars and to measure outer space with the tools available to them. I found each culture and age has a different way of interpreting and presenting the world as they see it.

I examine these concepts of unraveling the mysteries of the universe. As a result of investigating these marvels, my artworks have become more delicate, more geometric, loose and transparent. By splattering the watercolors and allowing them to bleed, I intend to suggest the atmosphere, the expanding sky. My objective is to explore the idea of making order out of chaos and of measuring the infinite.
